2014 Annual Meeting
The NMAS, NM EPSCoR, NM AMP, and NMPMSE were proud to host this year's Research Symposium!
The meeting was a huge success with over 130 attendees on November 1 in the downtown Hyatt in Albuquerque. The NM EPSCoR students and staff did a wonderful job in the planning and execution of the meeting.
The day started out with a luncheon during which Dr. Abe Ellis of Sandia National Labs gave the event's keynote, Renewable Energy Potential and Technical Challenges, in which he addressed what we have learned from rapid deployment of wind and solar generation over the last decade, and how the industry and technology has evolved. Following the luncheon, the day was split into two concurrent sessions, each covering three distinct topics with four to five presenters per topic. Topics ranged from bioalgal and solar energy to engineering and ecosystems.
A student poster session competition took place between the concurrent sessions, with 4 winners in the undergraduate/high school category, and 3 in the graduate/faculty category. The winners were Alexandra Minitrez (UNM), Brittney Dlouhy-Massengale (ENMU), Chris Hirani (CNM), Marisa Repasch (UNM), Francisco Whitson-Brown (SFCC), Nadia Mabrouk Mujynya (SFCC), and Chaitanya Kukutla (NMSU).
At the end of the day, participants were treated to a reception where the winners of the poster competion were announced, and Michaela Buenemann presented the NMAS Award for Outstanding Science Teaching to Lindsay Henson and Colleen Ruiz. These two women know how to bring science into the classroom while engaging and encouraging their students. Congrats, ladies!

2013 Annual Meeting
The New Mexico Academy of Science (NMAS) and NM EPSCoR 2013 annual meeting was an open forum for sharing the results of research and teaching on “Impacts of Climate Change on Water in New Mexico” and “Sustainable Energy Development in New Mexico”. It was an exciting day. It resulted in the 2013 New Mexico Journal of Science (pdf).
