The Outstanding Science Teacher Award given by the New Mexico Academy of Science honors New Mexico science and math educators. The Academy recognizes educators who provide opportunities for students to succeed in science. The award has been given since 1968 and  nominations are open to all preK-12 teachers and all Informal Science educators throughout New Mexico.

Nominate an outstanding science teacher for recognition by NM Academy of Science
Deadline October 8, 2021

Open to all grade K -12 Science teachers and informal science educators in public and private settings. NMAS recognizes those who provide exemplary opportunities for students’ STEM learning.

The Academy honors two outstanding educators each year at the annual NMAS symposium/meeting with an engraved plaque, a monetary award provided by ACS, and classroom materials. Awards will be given virtually this year at the NMAS Annual Meeting on Friday November 12, 2021.

Nominations can come from school administrators, parents or families of students, colleagues, or self. Nominations are accepted at any time on a rolling basis ...

High School Seniors Selected to Attend 2021 National Youth Science Camp

The New Mexico Academy of Science, in conjunction with the National Youth Science Foundation has selected two delegates to represent New Mexico at the 2021 National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp). High school seniors with demonstrated accomplishments in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as well as leadership skills are invited to apply. Each state selects two delegates from qualified applicants.

Karin Ebey and Othello Gamboa are the 2021 New Mexico delegates. Ebey, a senior at Los Alamos High School, has distinguished herself locally and nationally with her research on population dynamics in crocodilians. Gamboa, who attends NM School for the Arts, is interested in NYSCamp so he can delve more deeply into the connections between the arts ...

These awards honor New Mexico science and math educators, and have been given since 1968. The Academy recognizes teachers who provide opportunities for students to succeed. Nominations are open to all science and math teachers in New Mexico. Each year the Academy honors two outstanding classroom or informal science teachers nominated from throughout New Mexico. The teachers are honored with awards at the NMAS Annual Meeting and also receive an award from our collaborative partner, the American Chemical Society.

In 2020, the Outstanding New Mexico Science Teachers are: Eva Abeyta and Lena Eddings.
