Writing your research paper

Many students who compete also submit an entry in a science fair, although the Academy does not require that they do so. Entries in the paper competition, however, must report on the student's actual experiment or project. Our emphasis is on communication of your research.

Technical papers differ from other literary papers in their composition. The following characteristics distinguish science research papers:

  • Content and sequence: an abstract; specific, labeled sections;  citations; references
  • Papers submitted in print-ready format: electronic document, preferably Microsoft Word; single spaced, paginated, left aligned, one-inch margins; Times New Roman 12-pt font
  • Limit the body of the paper to 4,500 words

Before you begin writing your paper please read the compete Formatting Rules for Technical Papers. Also ...
